At St Mary's Primary School we use the "Read, Write, Inc" scheme to teach phonics and reading on a daily basis in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1. Some children in Year 3 and 4 still use this scheme. Children identified as requiring additional support in reading and writing at Year 5 and 6 have daily lessons via the "Fresh Start" scheme. Children in Key Stage 2, requiring additional support in reading may also use the "Project X" reading scheme. In addition, we feel that it is vital that children read for enjoyment and from across a range of texts. To support extended reading every child in the school has a library session in our well equipped and modern library facility. Children are welcome to select books weekly from this provision which is supervised by our School Librarian, Lucia Edwards.
